One Munster Rugby player selected on British and Irish Lions squad

ONE Munster player has been included on the British and Irish Lions squad tour to Australia this summer.

Munster Rugby captain Tadhg Beirne has been included on the the British and Irish Lions tour for the second time. 

Beirne was part of the British and Irish Lions tour in 2021 when the squad travelled to South Africa. The versatile Beirne made his debut for Munster away to Glasgow in September 2018.

The 33-year-old has made 61 appearances for Ireland scoring 12 tries. Fiveteen Ireland players have been included in the squad.

Leinster have twelve representatives on the squad which includes Andrew Porter, Dan Sheehan, Ronan Kelleher, Tadgh Furlong, Joe McCarthy, James Ryan, Josh Van Der Flier, Jack Conan, Jamison Gibson-Park, Garry Ringrose, Hugo Keenan and James Lowe. 

Connacht's Mack Hansen and Bundi Aki have also been named on the squad. 

Maro Itoje will skipper the 38-man squad in his third Tour. For the very first time, The Lions squad was unveiled in front of more than 2,000 fans at indigo at The O2 in London.

The squad features 26 first time tourists, while nine players will participate in their second Lions Tour. Tadhg Furlong and Elliot Daly have also been selected for a third Lions Tour.

Northampton Saints back row Henry Pollock is the youngest member of the touring party at just 20 years of age. The British and Irish Lions will play three test matches against Australia this summer in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney. 

The first test takes place on July 19 followed by the second test on July 26 and Andy Farrell's side will finish off the series on August 2. 

The 2025 tour will feature three Test matches and six Pre-Test matches with the first game taking place in the Aviva Stadium against Argentina on June 20.
