It is understood that no one was injured as a result of the incident

A TRUCK “got tangled” in the new lights in one Limerick town, bringing down festoon lights and two streetlights.

It is understood that the large vehicle got caught in the newly-installed festoon lighting while trying to turn onto Main Street in Castleconnell on Wednesday.

Two streetlights were pulled down as a result.

Councillor Ursula Gavan was one of the first on the scene.

“I was there in two minutes because I live around the corner. I got a phone call and headed down straight away,” she explained.

“My first concern was that no one was injured. You can replace a car, you can’t replace a person.”

Cllr Gavan made contact with An Garda Síochána, as well as with the ESB as live wires on the road were a concern.

She and other locals blocked off part of the road for safety until they cleared the scene.

“It was all hands on deck,” she said.

Thankfully for road users in the area, Cllr Gavan confirmed that “it’s all cleared up” and that new lights have been ordered.

The new lights had only been installed earlier this year through General Municipal Allocation funding from both Cllr Gavan and Cllr Joe Pond.
