Woman awoken by burglars making noise in Limerick home

GARDAÍ are investigating a burglary at a residential property where a woman in her 40s was awoken by noises downstairs.

The burglary occurred in Rathkeale between approximately 5am and 5.45am.

Cash and a mobile phone were stolen. It is believed that entry was gained through an unlocked rear door.

After being awoken by noises coming from downstairs, the woman investigated and observed three male youths inside her home.

They then fled from the property.

Sergeant Michelle O’Halloran, crime prevention officer at Henry Street Garda Station in Limerick city, said: “Gardaí in Rathkeale are investigating and are appealing to anyone who may have information to contact them.

“They’re particularly interested in hearing from anyone who was in the area during the early hours and may have observed three youths acting suspiciously. This could include people making deliveries or travelling through the area at that time.”

Sgt O’Halloran provided advice for keeping your property safe: “It’s important to remember that burglars may look for opportunities to enter a property, and an unlocked door can provide that opportunity. Before going to bed, make sure all doors and accessible windows are locked, including rear doors and doors leading to gardens or side entrances.

“Keep keys away from doors and windows where they could be reached from outside, and use your house alarm at night if it has a suitable night-time setting.”

She added: “If you hear something suspicious inside your home, don’t put yourself at risk by confronting intruders. Move to a secure room if possible and contact Gardaí on 999 or 112.”
