A Crime Prevention Officer at Henry Street Garda Station said these offences serve as a reminder that garden sheds need the same attention to security as the main house

TWO garden sheds in County Limerick have been targeted by thieves just 24 hours apart, gardai have revealed.

Authorities in Croom are now investigating a theft, which was reported on Thursday, October 15.

In this instance, a woman stated that her shed had been accessed overnight after the lock had been cut open. As a result, garden tools were stolen.

Just one day later on Friday, October 16, there was a further report of a shed break-in in the Patrickswell area.

Similarly, a woman, aged in her seventies, left her home at approximately 10am and then returned at 4pm to discover that her garden shed had also been accessed unbeknownst to her.

In this case, a lawnmower and full canister of petrol were stolen following the break-in. Gardai in Patrickswell are now investigating the incident.

Sergeant Michelle O’Halloran, Crime Prevention Officer at Henry Street Garda Station in Limerick city, said these offences serve as a reminder that garden sheds and outbuildings need the same attention to security as the main house.

Expanding on this, she said: “Lawnmowers and other garden machinery can be valuable, so homeowners should consider a good-quality lock, reinforce doors and hinges, and secure valuable tools inside the shed. Motion-activated lighting and a shed alarm can also act as useful deterrents.”
