DESPITE a lot of turmoil, confusion and uncertainty, it has been confirmed that there will be a light up procession to start the Christmas festivities in the city.

The theme of this year is ‘Together for Christmas in Limerick’ aimed at capturing a sense of unity, belonging, goodwill and renewal.

The display of lights from Limerick City and County Council will be revealed at the light up procession on Saturday, November 22.

A parade from LUXe Theatre Company will travel from the Crescent, down O’Connell Street and towards Merchant’s Quay.

The Christmas offering in Limerick will also include Limerick on Ice at Arthur’s Quay Park, Christmas at the Milk Market with a Santa experience, children’s art projections illuminating the city centre and an animation and decoration of public spaces.

The full Christmas in Limerick programme for this year will be launched on November 18 and a full list of events in the city and county can be found on limerick.ie.

Meanwhile, the very successful Twilight Thursday programme will be taking a break for December and most of January, returning on January 29, 2026.

A council spokesperson said that this is “to allow space for new festive experiences across the city centre.”

Anyone interested in running an event after 6pm throughout the December evenings, is invited to apply for the Night Time Economy Christmas Grant Scheme.

Proposals from entertainment and activity providers, business owners, performers, community organisations, event organisers and cultural groups, are welcome to apply.

Expressions of interest should be sent to the council by November 10 at noon, to be considered.
