A JAPANESE restaurant on Limerick’s O’Connell Street has suffered extensive damage in a fire overnight.

Limerick City Fire and Rescue Service was called to a blaze at the Taikichi restaurant shortly after 3.30am on Thursday morning.

When the fire service arrived, flames were coming out of the window of the ground floor restaurant on O’Connell Street. Three units attended the scene.

Two teams of fire fighters were immediately deployed to search and evacuate the apartments above Taikichi. Around ten people were removed from their homes and the fire was quickly brought under control. No one was injured in the incident.
