THE CHARTERED Institute of Personnel and Development Mid West (CIDP Mid-West) hosted a round table discussion on the topic of micro-credentials in collaboration with the University of Limerick (UL).
Micro-credentials are small educational courses designed to meet the demands of learners, enterprises and organisations.
Incorporating micro-credentials into your retention strategy was the central discussion by CIDP Mid-West and UL.
According to the CIDP organisations are repeatedly innovating their approach to retaining and attracting talent, that’s where micro-credentials come into play as they are seen as key opportunities in the future of work.
One of the intentions of micro-credentials is to enable employees to personalise their learning journey that supports their career goals.
Chairperson of CIPD Mid-West Lavinia Ryan-Duggan says while micro-credentials don’t “replace other education offerings”, they can offer another choice for both employers and employees that can support their work-life balance and career choices.
“This was a great opportunity to hear views and benefits these bite-sized accredited courses can have to retain key talent and address skills gaps for organisations of all sizes,” Ms Ryan-Duggan said.
Graduate and Professional Studies at UL Helen Brown said, “Talent leaders from across the Mid-West debated the opportunities to be had with these new bite-sized, accredited, enterprise-powered qualifications which allow learners to gather skills and competencies in a flexible, fast, and affordable way.
“Acknowledging the challenges that businesses are facing in retaining talent, these micro-credentials are shaping the future of professional education and proving to be an excellent resource for companies’ recruitment and retention strategies,” she added.
