Joey Carbery dots down for Munster Rugby's fifth try in their bonus point URC win over Connacht at Thomond Park on Saturday evening
HOLDERS Munster Rugby secured their first interprovincial victory of the season in the United Rugby Championship in some style when thumping Connacht 47-12 in front of an attendance of 20,183 at a sun-drenched Thomond Park on Saturday afternoon.
Two first half tries from RG Snyman and Calvin Nash, both converted by Joey Carbery, who was making is 50th appearance for the province, propelled the home side into a useful 14-7 interval lead.
The URC champions then cut loose in the second period, notching five more tries in all from Man of the Match Alex Nankivell, Conor Murray, Joey Carbery, Thomas Ahern and finally Shane Daly in the final minute.
The win boost Munster's hopes of securing home advantage in the quarter-finals of the competition.
Munster have now won their last seven BKT United Rugby Championship matches since opponents, Connacht, beat them in Galway on New Year's Day.
