LIMERICK's U20 football squad will face Waterford in the EirGrid Munster Championship B final on Wednesday, April 10 at a neutral venue.
This fixture is a result of Limerick losing to Clare over the weekend and ultimately finishing third in the group with Waterford below them. A win in the Munster B Final will progress them on to the All-Ireland B semi-final.
The Shannonsiders recorded only one win in the Munster championship against Waterford and a draw against Tipp in their opening game.
In their final round-robin game of the championship, Limerick lost out to a stronger Clare side on a scoreline of 1-9 to 0-6. Given that the Limerick lineup was built around a minor side that defeated both Clare and Tipperary and then put it up to Cork in the 2021 Munster final, the failure to progress comes as a bitter disappointment to those promoting the future of football in the county but it capped off a campaign that never caught fire despite claiming a win and a draw in the first two outings.
Speaking about the defeat, manager Shane Kelly stated: “Look Clare were the better side, they were better prepared. They looked like a side that have been together for a number of years. We just seemed to give away the ball too easy and not even under pressure at times.
“Turn-over ball has been the bane of our whole campaign so we really need to work on that before this final against Waterford next week.”
