Talented UL women's soccer squad targets All-Ireland Lydon Cup final glory

The UL women's soccer squad which faces ATU Sligo in the All-Ireland Lydon Cup final this Wednesday

THE UL women's soccer side will seek to win the CUFAI All-Ireland Lydon Cup when facing ATU Sligo at Maynooth University tomorrow, Wednesday, at 3.15pm.

The competition is the premier women's colleges soccer competition, featuring the premier division sides. 

The Craig Madigan-managed UL squad includes several high profile Ireland internationals and SSE Airtricity Women's Premier Division players. Included in the UL squad are the likes of Ellen Molloy, of Wexford Youths, a senior Republic of Ireland international, another Rep of Ireland international in Dearbháile Beirne, of Peamount United, highly-rated Limerick teenager Jenna Slattery, of Galway United, who has represented the Rep of Ireland right through the under-age ranks and who previously played with Fairview Rangers and Treaty United as well as Shauna Pearson, of Treaty United.

ULs path to tomorrow, Wednesday's final, included a 4-2 quarter-final win over UCC and a 3-0 success over SETU Carlow. UL got the better of final Cup final opponents ATU Sligo 3-0 when the sides met in the league.

Along with team manager Craig Madigan, the UL backroom team includes Treaty United goalkeeper, Annie Ulliac and Robert Collins (UL Lecturer)
