MONALEEN secured their place in this year’s Munster Junior Club Camogie final after scoring a convincing 3-16 to 0-8 victory over Waterford rivals Butlerstown at Ballyagran on Saturday afternoon

A stubborn wind aided the Limerick side in the opening half and they were quick to reap its benefit as Ella Hession netted inside the opening three minutes. The goal triggered a rampant scoring spree for Monaleen, a pair of Ellie Madden frees were followed by two stand-out scores from the dangerous Caoimhe Lyons.

Butlerstown had to wait 13 minutes for their first score from the stick of Niamh Savage. Lyons engineered an instant response before her namesake on the opposing team Katelyn Lyons hit two frees in quick succession.

Monaleen closed out a strong first half showing through a flurry of scores from Madden and Hession which gave the Limerick side a commanding 11 point lead at the break as Monaleen led 1-11 to 0-3.

Despite their 11-point advantage, Monaleen started the second half with intent as Lyons struck again just after the throw in. However it was the opposing Lyons, Katelyn, that was front and centre for the next ten minutes as she hit four placed balls over the bar without reply.

A Madden free ceased any momentum the Waterford side were building as Sarah Farrell would point what would be their last score of the contest.

Monaleen found the net again through Lyons with 10 to play and despite Madden missing from the penalty spot Lyons made up for it with her second goal in added time to seal a dominant victory for Monaleen on a score line of 3-16 to 0-8. Monaleen now advance to the final next weekend.
