CASTLETROY captain, Anne Cullen, looks set to bring her team to the AIG Women’s Junior Cup where they will look to add their name to the trophy once again.
The AIG All-Ireland Inter-Club finals take place at Westport Golf Club this weekend with the Women’s Junior Cup, Men’s Jimmy Bruen, Women’s Intermediate Cup, Women’s Minor Cup, and Men’s Fred Perry up for grabs.
Castletroy Golf Club booked their place in the All-Ireland semi-final after a win against Royal Curragh. They will bring experience to the final four against Dundalk having claimed the AIG Women’s Junior Cup in 2016, while Castle Golf Club will face Castlebar on the other side of the draw.
After a semi-final finish at last week’s AIG Women’s Senior Foursomes, Castletroy will hope to go one step further in Westport this weekend. With past All-Ireland titles won in the AIG Women’s Junior Foursomes and AIG Men’s Junior cup, the Women’s Junior Cup team will have the opportunity to bring a green pennant back to the club for the first time in seven years.
“Delighted and really excited that we’ve got there. We’ve a marvellous team and we’re hoping for the best,” said Cullen.
“We're looking forward to going to Westport and enjoying the nice scenery and good golf. We would be super delighted to win.”
The action gets underway this morning with the AIG Women’s Junior Cup, AIG Men’s Jimmy Bruen Shield and the AIG Women’s Minor Cup. The semi-finals are up first with the finals taking place the following day.
Gowran Park made history last week as they claimed the Revive Active Women’s Fourball title. They will have two more opportunities this week to claim green pennants as they have teams competing for the title in the AIG Men’s Jimmy Bruen and AIG Women’s Intermediate Cup.
Headfort, Tubbercurry and Clonmel will be the other teams competing for the AIG Men's Jimmy Bruen title while Portsalon, Portumna and Fota Island will set out to bid for the AIG Women’s Intermediate Cup.
Ardee, Baltinglass, Lee Valley and Rockmount will be competing for the AIG Women’s Minor Cup.
The AIG Women’s Intermediate Cup begins on Friday while the semi-final of the Fred Perry Trophy will take place on Saturday. Dunmurry, Ballykisteen, Templemore and Connemara Isles will be hoping to come out on top in the AIG Men’s Fred Perry and be crowned champions on Sunday.
