Exciting Limerick teenager signs for English League One side Reading FC

Limerick teenager John Ryan has signed for English League One club Reading FC

A TALENTED Limerick teenager has joined English EFL League One club Reading FC.

Nineteen-year-old John Ryan has signed a one-year deal with Reading's U21 side who are managed by former Republic of Ireland international Noel Hunt.

Republic of Ireland under-age international Ryan had been a free agent since leaving Serie A side Sassuolo in Italy over the summer, and impressed during a trial period at Reading including when featuring for the first-team in a pre-season game with Queens Park Rangers.

The versatile Ryan moved to Serie A top flight Sassuolo from UCD who were playing in the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division 12 months ago. Ryan had joined UCD from Shamrock Rovers.

The former St Kevin’s Boys and Shamrock Rovers player is a past pupil of Milford NS, Castletroy Gaelscoil and Castletroy College. He also previously played GAA with Ballybricken and Monaleen clubs. Ryan completed his Leaving Cert in June of last year at Ashfield College in Dublin.

Ryan tasted tasted double national underage league success at U17 and U19 level with Shamrock Rovers. 

The talented Limerick teenager has represented the Rep of Ireland at under-age level up through the age grades.
