THE LIMERICK Ladies footballers get their Munster senior ‘B’ Championship campaign underway this weekend. Limerick will face Clare, Cork ‘B’ and Kerry ‘B’ in a round-robin series.

The Shannonsiders travel to Clare this Sunday at 2pm to take on their neighbours in round one of the Munster Championship.
Sean Kiely and Mike Quilligan's Limerick side are aiming to win the Munster ‘B’ Championship for the second year in-a-row.

“The big thing we did is we took a bit of break. There was a lot of games there in the National League. Obviously, an awful lot of training sessions done. We decided to give the girls two weeks’ off, so we return to training on Wednesday night and we prepare for the Munster B Championship,” said Limerick ladies football joint manager Sean Kiely.

Kiely said Limerick will be using the Munster Championship as a springboard for the All-Ireland Championship.

“At end of the day, we want to be able to go into an All-Ireland Championship fresh. We'll be using the Munster Championship as preparation for that. We've a really competitive panel, there isn't much between most of the girls.

“It's the first year we've really had 30 players pushing each other for all positions around the field. It's where Limerick needs to be in the football. You'll see new players pushing for positions in the Munster Championship. It's a vital part of our preparation.”

The Limerick Ladies football management team decided to release the players back to their clubs after the National League.

“It's something that we like to do where we can, obviously these girls have learned their trade with their clubs. We don't like to keep these players away from their clubs when we don't have to. They've played a round or two of the club leagues. It's good to see them going back and meeting up with their clubmates. They come back into us fresh and ready to go this week.”

Limerick host Kerry on Sunday, May 4 and Limerick will then finish off their round-robin campaign against Cork on May 11.
The two teams that finish in first and second place will compete in the Munster ‘B’ final. It was a positive spring for Limerick where they retained their Division 3 league status for 2026.

This weekend Sean Kiely is expecting a big challenge from Clare.

“Clare are grade above us and they're a very experienced side. They've playing a higher grade of football than Limerick for the last three of four years. There isn't much between us, we are improving over the league and we seem to be heading in the right direction. Hopefully, we'll give them a good run for it.”
