MURROE capped off a remarkable season by completing the LWSSL Division 2 League and Cup double with a dominant 7–0 win over Ballylanders at Coonagh AFC on Saturday.

Ballylanders started brightly, creating early chances and showing the determination that had taken them so close in the league. Defender Eidin Murphy impressed at the back, while goalkeeper Maire Croinin pulled off a string of excellent saves to keep her side in contention.

Murroe, however, found their stride midway through the first half. Megan Buckley opened the scoring on 22 minutes, and her side pressed on to add three more goals before half-time, taking a commanding 4–0 lead into the break.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with Murroe moving the ball well and attacking with pace. Despite Ballylanders’ tireless effort until the final whistle, Murroe struck three further goals to seal an emphatic 7–0 victory.

The goals came from Megan Buckley (2), Maire Rainsford (2), Aoibhinn McNamara, Abi O’Mahony, and Eve Shanahan, capping off a superb attacking display.

For Murroe, the result secured a league and cup double and confirmed their return to Division 1 in style. Ballylanders, meanwhile, can reflect on a strong season where their quality and determination shone through, even if silverware eluded them this time.

The LWSSL also recognised Noel O'Regan, of Murroe AFC, for his outstanding commitment to the league over the last 20 years with a fitting presentation.

Noel held various offices in the LWSSL over his long 20-year involvement, Fixtures Sec, Treasurer, Vice-Chairperson and committee member.

His encyclopedia knowledge of playing rules and procedures has made him the go-to person for all involved in the league .

His expertise and knowledge of setting LWSSL fixtures for many years has been exemplary and his opinion and judgement invariably allowed us to make the correct decision for the league . once again we wish to thank Noel for his service.
