Division 2B Eamon Ray Cup Final:

Ballynanty Rvs B 4 Newport C 0

BALLYNANTY Rvs completed a unique treble on Tuesday evening when they added the Eamon Ray Cup to the Munster Shield and League title on board following a 4-0 win over Newport C at Jackman Park.

Newport exceeded all expectations by reaching the decider but came up short when facing a vastly more experienced Balla XI.

The Blues dominated from the off and once they broke the deadlock after 15 minutes, Kevin Nolan heading in the opener from Jamie O’Sullivan’s corner kick, you felt it was only a case of how many.

To be fair to a very young Newport side they battled gamely but conceded again ten minutes later, again from a corner kick, when another O’Sullivan delivery fell at the feet of Daniel Daly who blasted in from close range.

Daly killed off the game as a contest when he scored a superb goal, his diving header finished off a Ger Higgins cross.

Higgins also found the target with Balla’s final score when he latched onto Dave Donnan’s through ball to chip over Newport keeper Danny O’Keefe
