PATRICKSWELL'S Paul Foley is set to be elected unopposed to the Officer position of Treasurer of the Munster Council at next Friday evening's Munster GAA Provincial Convention, for a three year term having been nominated by both the Limerick and Clare County Boards.

The last Limerickman to hold this position was Michael Fitzgerald, Kilmallock in 2012 and previously Declan Moylan, Claughaun in 1998.

Past Limerick Officers of Munster GAA included Chairmen Liam Lenihan in 2019, Tom Boland 1992 and further back William P Clifford 1932 and Paddy Ryan 1967.

Foley became PRO of the Senior GAA Club in Patrickswell at age 15 and as a player won 8 Senior County Championships, captaining the side in 1993. He also won two Munster Senior Clubs and 2 All-Ireland Sevens titles during his playing career as well as lining out at all grades with Limerick.

He served on the Limerick County Board for the last ten years as Central Council Delegate and previously Munster Council
Delegate.

He was Chairperson of Patrickswell GAA for four years up to 2013 and this year managed the club's Junior Football team.

During his period on the Central Council, Foley was appointed to a number of influential committees in Croke Park including the GAA Strategy Steering Group (under former Uachtaran Larry McCarthy) and the Central Appeals Committee.

He was subsequently appointed by Jarlath Burns to the National Appointments and National Finance Committees
in Croke Park. The Limerick GAA administrator also participated with former Uachtaran Christy Cooney on the operational review of the GAA's Ard Comhairle in 2022.

Foley worked for many years with Limerick City Council and currently with the McManus organisation and holds a degree in Economics and an MBA from DCU.

The same Convention has for nominations for the Communications Officer position with Eamonn Phelan, from St Patrick's GAA Club, in this contest nominated by Limerick.

The Munster GAA Convention takes place on next Friday evening, January 16, at the Fitzgeralds Woodlands House Hotel, Adare.
