THE FINAL game of the weekend in the Limerick premier intermediate hurling championship sees the meeting of Blackrock and Bruff in Knocklong on Sunday evening at 7pm.
Bruff were beaten in the 2024 premier intermediate semi-final by Garryspillane. Former Kildimo-Pallaskenry manager Natal O'Grady has came into the club as coach of the Bruff hurling team.
Last year, Blackrock missed out on qualifying for the knockout stages of the premier intermediate championship. Former Limerick senior hurling selector Jimmy Quilty is the Blackrock hurling manager this year.
Patrick Finn brother of Limerick senior hurler Sean Finn feels that it is the time for Bruff to build on their underage success this year.
“We have had a lot of success underage in the last couple of years. We were in the county final two years ago, semi-final year before that and semi-final last year.
“We won't be taking any game for granted, we are definitely looking to push on and bring that underage success to senior,” said Patrick Finn.
Blackrock's Jimmy Quilty said it's important for Kilfinane club to rectify things after missing a place out on a place in the knockout stages last year. Quilty was previously part of John Kiely's squad.
“Obviously the goal at the start of the year is to get to the top four and see what happens from there. We didn't pick up enough points and we are eager to rectify that and to try and pick up as many points as possible and gurantee ourselves in to that top four spot,” said Jimmy Quilty.
Finn and Quilty were teammates this year on the Mary Immaculate College Fitzgibbon Cup teams. Limerick corner back Sean Finn and Sean Casey will both line out for Bruff in the PIHC.Former Limerick hurler Richie McCarthy was deployed on the edge of square in attack for Blackrock in 2024.
Verdict: Bruff
