SEVEN Limerick hurling hurling stars were part of the University of Limerick and the University of College Cork squads in the Freshers Hurling Championship final on Thursday in the Mallow GAA Grounds.
UL were crowned Freshers Hurling Champions for the second year in-a-row after they defeated UCC 1-24 to 1-16. Fintan Fitzgerald and Tadgh Boddy were both part of the UL's starting XV. Fitzgerald was on target with 0-2 from midfield, while Tadgh Boddy chipped in with 0-1 from play.
Tadgh Boddy has recently transferred from Bruff to Dromin Athlacca. Fintan Fitzgerald was part of the Limerick senior hurling squad earlier this year and the Mungret St Paul's clubman will now switch his focus to the start of the U20 Munster hurling championship with Limerick.
Meanwhile, Bruff's Sean Casey was part of the extended UL squad. Casey missed Thursday night's Fresher final through injury and he will be hoping to be fit for the start of the Munster U20 Championship.
Four players from Limerick featured on the UCC starting XV. Fionn O'Brien, Dara Ferland and Daniel Scully all lined out for the Cork college and the three players are of the Shannonsiders U20 hurling squad. Ferland and Scully both scored 0-1 each in their side's defeat to UL.
Pallasgreen's Tadgh Hourigan was a late inclusion on the UCC starting XV.
