A MUCH-LOVED colourful cafe in Limerick city centre has closed its doors.

The Old Fire Station, a vegetarian and vegan cafe based on Thomas Street, closed its doors last Saturday.

“Thank you to all our customers for their support and our wonderful staff for making the last two years a joyful and rewarding experience,” the cafe said, in a message posted on its front door.

“Unfortunately due to family obligations, we closed our doors on Saturday April 20. Thank you again for all at The Old Fire Station.”

The Old Fire Station was among the vegan eateries praised by actor Matthew Modine, who visited Limerick city last summer.

It opened for business in 2016, specialising in vegan and vegetarian recipes using fresh, seasonal foods.
