With Black Friday and Cyber Monday fast approaching, gardai in Limerick are warning shoppers to take basic precautions when buying goods online.

Divisional crime prevention officer, Sergeant Ber Leetch, says people should only but from trustes website and should use their credit cards which offer certain levels of protection.

Users should only use secure sites which have the padlock yymbol displayed in the URL bar.

“Save all the documents related to your online purchase, they may be needed to establish terms and conditions of the sale or proof of payment,” added Sgt Leetch.

Money should not be sent upfront and shoppers should never disclose their PIN code or CVN security code when online.

Credit card details should only be supplied when purchasing a specific item and should not be disclosed prior to the transaction talking place.
