LIMERICK businessman Tom Moran has won the award of business person of the year at the South Dublin Chamber’s annual business awards.

Mr Moran, who is originally from Athea, and is a former sponsor of Limerick’s GAA panels, accepted the award over the weekend in recognition of his years of service to the hospitality industry at the landmark Red Cow Moran Hotel.

Tom’s daughter Tracey spoke on his behalf, saying: “It has been a tough two and a half years as dad has been recovering from a stroke in 2016. This award really is a testament to his fighting spirit and his dedication to the business. Behind every successful business man is a strong partner so huge thanks to Sheila, our Mum and to the team at the Red Cow complex for keeping the operation going as he fought back.”

She said she was especially delighted to win the award on Mr Moran’s 30th anniversary of doing business in South Dublin.

In 2016, Mr Moran was placed in an induced coma after falling in Puerto Banus, Spain. He was admitted to hospital following the accident, which took place days after the wedding of publican Charlie Chawke’s daughter, Jenny.
