Telly Bingo Snowball winner, Betty O’Keeffe, second left, with members of her family in the National Lottery winners’ room
GARRYSPILLANE’S luck continued this week after hurling success as a local woman won big on the National Lottery’s Telly Bingo.
There were celebrations all-round at National Lottery headquarters in Dublin this Wednesday as a Limerick woman claimed a cool €40,005 prize won on Telly Bingo, while two other delighted players claimed €50,000 each on scratch card wins.
The lucky Telly Bingo winner, Betty O’Keeffe, from Garyspillane - who won a club hurling title with a win over Bruff at the weekend - revealed she has been playing the game since it started in 1999 and plays with three other members of her family every Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
“It was amazing. We’ve been playing since the start and the most I’ve ever won was €100. I heard the presenter (Declan Buckley) call number 24 and I realised I just needed 11. I tried to get the words out to the others that I was just waiting on one when out came number 11!
“I was just blathering in disbelief and finally shouted – ‘I WON’. I was stuck to the chair for about 10 minutes with the shock. The others were jumping all over the sitting room celebrating. It was pandemonium.”
Betty won the Snowball prize on Telly Bingo on Friday. She bought her lucky ticket in the Supervalu store on Sarsfield Street, Kilmallock. She said that she will put her winnings to treat her family and to do up the house before Christmas.
Betty and her family said it was another great stroke of luck in what’s a lucky year. Limerick won the All-Ireland hurling final and recently the family celebrated their local club Garyspillane GAA (The Bouncers) winning the Intermediate County Final.
