Motorists endure tough driving conditions as rain lashes Limerick

MOTORISTS are being warned to expect tough driving conditions this Friday as rain lashes through Limerick.

Downpours began falling across the city and county from early morning, with the April showers proving difficult for commuters.

Commuters on the M20, the M7 and other regional and local roads reported potentially hazardous driving conditions with strong gusts and winds.

Met Eireann has warned that up to 50 millimetres of rain is to be expected through today, with a yellow weather warning in place up to 3pm.

As well as Limerick, the warning covers counties Clare, Tipperary, Kerry, Cork, Waterford, as well as Kilkenny and Wexford.

The poor weather has claimed Limerick's race meeting on Saturday, with partial waterlogging rendering the course unfit for action.

The rain will aso further aggravate the existing fodder crisis being experienced by farmers in Limerick.
