The body of Jeffrey Hannan found on November 22, 2007
GARDAI have made a televised appeal for information about the murder of a young Limerick man more than a decade ago.
The renewed appeal in relation to the death of 19-year-old Jeffrey Hannan was broadcast during Monday’s Crimecall programme on RTÉ One television.
The father-of-two died after he was attacked near his home in O’Malley Park, Southill during the early hours of November 22, 2007.
He died from severe injuries after he was struck a number of times during a row with a group of young men having attended a bonfire near his home the previous night.
“On the morning of November 22, 2007, Jeffrey Hannan was found in a green area in O’Malley Park, Southill. While progress has been made in this investigation, we are still appealing for assistance,” said Detective Garda Paul Crowley of Roxboro Road garda station.
“Through the passage of time – we are now coming up to the 11th anniversary – what I am appealing for is people with information – people in the Southill community who know what happened to Jeffrey Hannan, who know who murdered him – I am appealing to them to come forward and to speak with us now,” he added.
While more than 20 people have been arrested and questioned by gardai about the murder, nobody has ever been charged in connection with the killing.
Jeffrey’s father, Alan Hannan, has consistently maintained that he knows the identity of his son’s killer and that he believes there are people in the locality who have information about what happened but who have not come forward to gardai.
Speaking on Crimecall, Detective Garda Crowley said Jeffrey Hannan was a young man whose family deserve justice.
“At the time of his death he was 19 years of age living with his family in the Southill area of Limerick His dad Alan, his mother Geraldine, his brother, his sister and also he is survived by his two daughters,” he said.
Gardai at Roxboro Road are investigating the murder and anyone with information is asked to contact them in confidence at (061) 214340.
