THE PYRITE remediation scheme is being expanded and will now support an extra 200 homes.
The scheme has supported houses affected by pyrite across nine local authorities, with 16 applications from Limerick since it was set up in 2014.

The majority of the applications have come from the Fingal area of Dublin.
Previously, only homes with significant damage were eligible, but now homes showing progression of a home getting worse, will also be included.
By the end of 2024, 10 years after the scheme was first set up, 2,851 homes had received a total cost of €196 million.
The Pyrite Resolution Board (PRB) administer the scheme and predict that over time, it will wind down with a primary focus on homeowners.
Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, James Browne TD, announcing the expansion said: "I am very glad to be able to announce today that the Pyrite remediation scheme will be widened to offer help and support to the owners of hundreds of additional homes. Although the number of applications has decreased significantly in recent years as we enter the final phase of the scheme, this Government has always been determined to ensure that nobody is left behind.
“We want to ensure that all eligible homeowners affected by the damage caused by pyrite, both here in Limerick and throughout all of the affected regions, can once again feel safe and secure in their own homes.”
Anyone eligible is urged to apply soon, while the deadline for submissions is Monday, November 30, 2026.
Those applying will need an appropriate professional, normally an engineer, to assess their house and prepare a building condition assessment. The homeowner may then complete an online application to the PRB.
