Pictures were shared widely on social media by members of the public following the act
SOME ELECTION posters were set on fire in one Limerick village, with the act thought not to be politically motivated.
One fire service unit attended the scene at Main Street, Castleconnell on Tuesday, November 12 at approximately 8:45pm.
Fire services confirmed that they left the scene at 9:30pm, when all the fires were quenched.
Gardaí confirmed with Limerick Live that they “received reports of anti-social behaviour in Castleconnell.”
They also said that “Those allegedly involved are under the age of criminal responsibility” and that “investigations are ongoing”.
The age of criminal responsibility is 12 years old. It is understood that the incident is not being considered as politically motivated.
The poster of Fianna Fail candidate Dee Ryan was one of those set alight.
"Antisocial behaviour and crime is coming up on the doors as a huge concern for people living in Annacotty, Castleconnell and Castletroy", Ms Ryan told Live95 on Tuesday evening.
"We urgently need more visible policing in these areas, we need increased garda numbers in Limerick and a garda station in Castletroy to tackle these issues head-on".

Separately, environmentally-conscious locals are asking candidates to refrain from erecting posters in the centre of the village. The Castleconnell Tidy Towns group are hoping for a poster-free zone similar to how it was during the election campaign in June.
The award-winning Tidy Towns group advocated for no posters in the vicinity during the local, European and mayoral elections, which they were successful with.
