He kicked off his teaching career in 2006 at Tarbert Comprehensive School.

Here, in 2013, he was appointed an assistant principal where he took on responsibilities for information and communication technology, e-learning and curriculum development.

He moved onto become the deputy principal at Scoil Mhuire in Kanturk in 2020.

Mr McNamara says he is deeply honoured to be returning to his alma mater in a leadership capacity.

“Being appointed to a leadership role in any school is a privileged position, but to be entrusted with the responsibility of leading at a school I attended and that ignited my passion for learning, is the greatest honour. It is heartening to see the commitment of Limerick and Clare ETB to our community through the continuous development of a modern campus,” he said.

George O’Callaghan the chief executive of the ETB congratulated Mr McNamara and wished him the very best in the new role.
