GARDAI in Limerick have released a woman arrested on Monday morning in connection with the murder of Kevin Sheehy.

A garda spokesperson said this Tuesday morning:”A woman aged in her 30s arrested as part of ongoing investigations related to the murder of Kevin Sheehy in County Limerick in July 2019, has been released without charge.”

Garda say "investigations are ongoing".

Mr Sheehy, a champion boxer from Limerick city, was repeatedly run over by a jeep driven by UK man Logan Jackson at Hyde Road, Limerick city, on July 1, 2019. The 20-year-old was tipped as a future Olympian.

Jackson, aged in his mid-30s, of Longford Road, Coventry, England was sentenced to life imprisonment, in December 2021, after he was convicted by a jury of murdering Mr Sheehy.

Jackson had denied intentionally or recklessly engaging in conduct which created a substantial risk of death or serious harm to others to wit; driving a Mitsubishi jeep vehicle dangerously at high speed in the direction of pedestrians on the same occasion.

The Central Criminal Court trial heard that the five times Irish boxing champion fought to get up off the ground after he was first hit but the UK-registered Mitsubishi Shogun jeep ran him over twice again at speed.

The jury agreed with the prosecution's case that Jackson had deployed his jeep as a murder weapon "as sure and as clear" as if it was a gun or a knife.

Jackson was transferred to the UK from Limerick Prison in 2023 despite the objections of Mr Sheehy's mother, Tracey Tully.

In July 2024, Jackson received a 22-year sentence imposed by the Sheriff’s Court in Coventry.
