'Fun-filled day' planned for Ukraine Independence Day celebration in one Limerick theatre

A ‘FUN-filled’ event celebrating Ukraine’s Independence Day will take place in one Limerick theatre.

People across the Ballyhoura area are invited to attend a Ukraine Independence Day of events at the Friar’s Gate Theatre in Kilmallock on August 24.

This community-led day aims to bring together locals and Ukrainian people in “a day filled with fun, culture, and unity, open to everyone regardless of nationality”.

Eileen O’Keeffe, manager at Ballyhoura Development CLG, said: “This event is a celebration of diversity, inclusion, and unity.
“Ukrainians and migrants in general living across the area add to the uniqueness and diversity that makes the Ballyhoura region a great place to live.”

The schedule features a vibrant programme of activities, designed for all ages.

A morning of fun for the kids will see a mini disco from 11am, hosted by Mickey Mouse. As well as this, a big bubble show is happening, with an animator who speaks Ukrainian, Russian, and English.

From 2pm to 3pm, a Ukrainian art exhibition will take place, showcasing the creativity of Ukrainians living in Ireland with the aim “to foster community connections and cultural appreciation”.

The exhibition will be on display at the Friar’s Gate Theatre throughout August.

A screening of Ukrainian cartoon Mavka will be shown from 3:15pm on the Independence Day celebration on Saturday, August 24.

“Enjoy the enchanting world of Mavka with English subtitles, making it accessible for all to enjoy,” a spokesperson said.

Refreshments will be provided throughout the event. The entire event is free of charge, but places are limited.
