The Askeaton man has lost out in the Adare-Rathkeale area
A LONG-STANDING Fine Gael councillor has been eliminated from the Adare-Rathkeale count, as Cllr Michael Sheahan has been knocked out of the running.
No quota was reached in the third count for the area.
Sheahan, who is originally from Askeaton, had been elected in 2009 for Limerick City East and was successful in retaining his seat there in 2014 and 2019.
He opted for the city seat, after moving to Monaleen with his family, but his heart has always been with Askeaton he would always proudly say.
Making a move as a long established councillor often presents a risk, but perhaps the risk was perceived to be less so given his established reputation.

He had 961 votes and the quota was 1,879.
The third count also saw Sinn Féin newcomer Joanna Collins and non-party Robert Daly excluded.
As the fourth count looms, there are still four seats left to fill, with Fine Gael colleagues Stephen Keary and Adam Teskey having taken a bit of a landslide first count in this area.
