A ‘grief-stricken’ story in a complicated world comes to Limerick this weekend

Katie will be presented on April 20 and 21

REHEARSALS are in full swing for a new play written by a local playwright.

Therese Prendiville will present her new play, Katie, in the Schoolyard Theatre, Charleville on Saturday, April 20 and at The Glorach in Abbeyfeale on April 21.

The play tells the story of Tony and Maureen’s grief-stricken journey as they mourn the loss of their only child, Katie.

Katie is set during the weekend of the greyhound coursing in a small town in rural Ireland, one year after the loss of Katie.

Tony and Maureen, with the help of friends, are desperately trying to navigate their way through the painful, complicated world of grief. This play explores themes of love, loss, hope and relationships.

Thérèse Prendiville studied Drama and Theatre studies in Trinity College from 2008 to 2012 and went on to write, direct and act in several productions in Dublin.

Thérèse wrote Grace and Maggie, which was produced as part of the Gay Theatre Festival (Colbalt Cafe) and Heard Festival (Smock Alley Theatre, Dublin), in which she was nominated for the Eva Gore Booth Best Actress Award for her role as Grace.

Thérèse choreographed a dance theatre piece called Black Pot, which played for two nights as part of the Scene and Heard Festival (Smock Alley Theatre, Dublin).

Then, she went on to play an array of diverse roles. In 2018, she earned a Master’s degree in marketing from the National College of Ireland.

She has worked in marketing for 6 years for clients such as the HSE, SuperValu, AIB, and National Lottery. Thérèse hopes to combine her knowledge of marketing with her passion for theatre and ensure the joy of theatre is spread to all.
