A MOTORIST, whose car was submerged in the river Shannon following an accident, managed to escape from the vehicle unharmed, has been confirmed.
Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of the single-vehicle traffic collision at approximately 6:50am on Thursday, February 8, in Ballina, Co. Tipperary.
The sole occupant and driver of the vehicle was rescued and taken safety after they accidentally entered the water on a slipway in Ballina.
Said to be unfamiliar with the area, the male driver escaped the sinking car and raised the alarm.
Members of the Coast Guard attended the scene and a crane was deployed to remove the car from the river, as it was completely submerged.
The vehicle was recovered and no injuries were reported.
Emergency services left the scene at approximately 9:40am.
