The grant for home charger was cut in half on January
LIMERICK motorists switching to electric vehicles (EV) will have to fork out more this year as the maximum SEAI Home Charger grant has been reduced from €600 to €300.
Leading EV charger company ePower has moved to raise awareness of the 50% cut in the maximum amount available - following a change that took effect on New Year’s Day.
The Irish company which supplies and installs chargers for domestic, commercial and public customers is highlighting the change at the end of a year which saw significant numbers of drivers making the switch away from petrol and diesel vehicles.
According to the CSO, there was a 46% jump in the number of EV cars licensed between January and November of this year, compared to last year.
Since the beginning of the new year, ePower is reminding consumers who might be thinking of making the change that they won’t qualify for greater grant support on the purchase and installation of a home charger after December 31.
Prior to the change, ePower was encouraging people to apply for a grant before the new year, saving themselves €300.
Speaking ahead of the new year CEO of ePower John O’Keeffe said the grant has been really successful and for drivers considering making the switch: “This is a very expensive time of year so if people are already thinking they’ll give Electric
Vehicles a go in 2024, it’s worth making the application and saving yourself up to €300. The grant will give you six months to complete the installation. The government’s range of grant schemes to help people change to EVs have been really popular”.
Full details of the grant application process are on the SEAI website and further information is also available from ePower.
