AFTER “much thought”, Limerick woman Trish Long has decided to avail of early retirement after many years as general manager and vice president of the Walt Disney Company in Ireland.

Ms Long, who is originally from the city will step down from her position on October 31, as she moves away from full-time employment.

Outside of her professional life, she has served in a number of voluntary roles with organisations in Limerick and across the country.

She is a current member of the governing authority at the University of Limerick and has held a number of different roles at UL since 2012.

Ms Long is also a current board member of University Concert Hall and a former board member of Troy Studios.

She is also the current chairperson of the Dublin International Film Festival.

After joining the Walt Disney Company in 1994, she initially worked for its theatrical distribution and marketing arm Buena Vista International.

Ms Long started her media career at the Big L pirate radio station in Limerick before later working at the Belltable Arts Centre and later the Irish Film Institute.

Commenting ahead of her retirement, she said she has had an amazing career with Disney. “I feel truly fortunate to have worked all over the world with this amazing company in so many different roles, in the company of so many wonderful colleagues, and to have seen our collective efforts result in so many great successes.”

Ms Long, who has been working since she was 16, says she cannot wait for “some unscheduled time in which to enjoy a few travel adventures and escapades and some fun and relaxed times with friends, family - not to mention getting to pursue some of my long list of educational and other interests.”
