TEN PROJECTS run by Limerick City and County Council have been shortlisted for national awards.
The schemes are in the running for prizes at the 20th annual Chambers Ireland Excellence in Local Government awards.
The scheme, sponsored by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage recognises and celebrates the outstanding work being carried out by local authorities all over Ireland.
Limerick’s first ‘School Street’ located at the Model School at O’Connell Avenue in the city has been shortlisted in the climate change category.
Crafting Connections has been recognised in the Age Friendly Initiative section.
And the council’s bid to market Limerick as a Student City is shortlisted under the communications section.
Its student planner pack is shortlisted in the inspiring future generations category.
‘Limerick on Foot’ is listed in the health and wellbeing category, while the Housing Assistance Payment hub scheme is named in the local authority innovation category.
A community jobs fair held in Regeneration areas and at the Engine collaboration building at Cecil Street also in the running.
Elsewhere, the new Discover Limerick brand is named in the supporting tourism category.
And a project named ‘Decarbonising Together’ is listed in the sustaining the arts category.
Mayor Gerald Mitchell said: “These projects are just a small sample of the great work being carried out in collaboration with other stakeholders across the county to improve quality of life for us all.” The awards take place in November.
