TRIBUTES have been paid to the Limerick hurling team's masseur Shane English following his sad passing.
Mr English passed away on Monday in Milford Care Centre, surrounded by his loving wife Breda, his son Jack and daughter-in-law Rachel.
Originally from Kilfinane, Mr English lived in Adare and was the masseur for the Limerick senior hurling team for the 2022 season.
John Kiely paid tribute to Mr English in a moving message on behalf of the team.
"He fit in very well and was very popular within the group. He was a great character to have around and we are all very saddened by his passing.
"We extend our deepest condolences to his wife Breda, his son Jack and his extended family and friends at this particularly sad time.
"They are in our hearts and prayers at this sad moment. He was a lovely fella.
"We were fortunate to have benefited from his talent and enjoyed his company and character while he was with us. He was a true gentleman. May He Rest in Peace."
Hurler Darragh O'Donovan also paid tribute to the late masseur saying: "Deepest condolences to the English family on the passing of Shane, an absolute gentleman. May he Rest in Peace."
Mr English had studied Sports Injury Management at Limerick College of Further Education and Training at the Kilmallock Road campus.
The Sports Department said in a statement that they were "deeply sadended" to hear of his passing.
"Shane was one of life's gentlemen who had a refreshing outlook and a positive can do attitude. A leader among his peers, always willing to lend a hand to those who needed it and never afraid to confront any challenge.
"He will always be remembered among the staff and his peers as quite simply 'One sound man'".
Mr English is pre-deceased by his parents Ann (O'Brien) and John English, his daughters Katie and Kaylee, his brothers Brian, Jimmy, Gerard and sister Ellen.
Sadly missed by his loving family, his sisters Mary, Ann, Rachel, Bridie and Juanita, his brothers Ed and Tom, nephews, nieces, brothers-in-law, sisters-in law, aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family and a large circle of family and friends.
Reposing at The Church of The Holy Trinity Abbey, Adare this Wednesday, August 23 from 6:30pm to 8pm.
Requiem Mass on Thursday, August 24 at 11:30am. Burial afterwards in Galbally Cemetery.
Family flowers only please. Donations if desired to Milford Care Centre.
