A post on the An Garda Siochana Limerick’s Facebook page reads: “Keeping people safe on our roads is a key part of our plan and any breaches of the road traffic acts will be acted upon.”

A dedicated recovery vehicle is allocated to the town at present and “where appropriate, drivers committing offences will have their vehicles seized”, say gardai.
“An Garda Síochána wish to remind everyone to please take care on our roads and never, ever drink or use drugs and drive,” concludes the post accompanied by a photo of a high-end vehicle being towed away.
The population of Rathkeale traditionally swells every Christmas with many members of the Travelling community returning from the UK and Europe for the festive period.
Rathkeale is considered the spiritual home for many Irish Travellers, who celebrate weddings, christenings and other family events during the Christmas season.
