FROM near and far, tens of thousands will be cheering on Limerick’s hurlers this Sunday as they aim to beat Kilkenny and win the Liam MacCarthy cup a fourth year-in-a-row.
Since the semi-final victory over Galway, Limerick's communities have shown their best side in the run-up to the hurlers’ fifth appearance in an All-Ireland final in six years.
Bunting and flags have erected, prayers have been said, bales have been died green and sky-dives have been completed as people express their support for the players and management team.
While Dublin will see a Treaty invasion, thousands are expected to cheer the team on from back in Limerick, with big screens being set-up in Pery Square in Limerick city centre and The Square in Newcastle West.
Both events, which are free, will be family-friendly and alcohol will not be permitted. Those attending the big screen at Pery Square are being advised the must register online in advance.
Supporters abroad will be getting up in the middle of night or staying up late to watch the match - wherever they are in the world.
While many travelled from Limerick to the Capital on Saturday, the majority of supporters will be making the journey from Shannonside this Sunday and those travelling by road are being advised to leave early to avoid any potential delays and to ensure they are in the ground ahead of the 3.30pm throw-in.
For those staying in Limerick to watch the All-Ireland final on TV, an appeal has been issued - straight from the top - to keep Limerick clean and tidy during the festivities
Senior hurling manager John Kiely said: “Let’s make a statement by keeping our city and county really clean during the upcoming events.”
Captain Declan Hannon, who has not been named in the 26-man squad, added: “Leave no trace, and leave the city as you found it: clean and presentable.”

Mayor of the city and county of Limerick, Cllr Gerald Mitchell, is among those wishing the hurlers the best of luck
"Under John Kiely, the Limerick team have delivered so many great sporting moments and achieved so much. Four All Ireland wins since 2018. Five in a row Munster Championship victories. They owe us nothing and yet they continue to deliver. Of course we all want to see them achieve an historic, record equaling four in a row. Regardless of the outcome we will celebrate all that this team have accomplished. C’mon Limerick!," he said.
Win, lose or draw, the Limerick team will return to Limerick on Sunday night for a private function at the Fitzgerald Woodlands Hotel in Adare.
