New 'boutique' coffee bar to open at former Limerick clothes store

New coffee bar unveiled in Limerick city centre

Guji coffee will open at the former Timberland store early next month

THE OWNER of a popular coffee business has revealed plans to open a new premises in Limerick city centre.

Guji Coffee Bar has announced the new premises will be located at the former Timberland premises at the corner of O’Connell Street and Shannon Street, which closed last summer.

The ‘boutique’ coffee company is linked with the Old Barracks pop-up shop, a roastery located at Dock Road in the city.

The Old Barracks, owned by the same entrepreneur as Guji Coffee Bar, Alan Andrews, has said Limerick has “so much to offer” and that it is an exciting time.

“We are really excited about opening in Limerick city - the city itself is so undervalued at the moment, but I think there is great opportunity here.  I think Limerick has so much to offer, and we are happy to be showcasing our product here," he the told Limerick Leader/Limerick Live.

Alan, who has been living in Limerick for over 20 years and for his “whole adult life”, says the Guji brand is a lifestyle brand which represents the “freedom to be yourself”.

He added: “The Old Barracks is an established coffee roastery out in Birdhill, and we also have another pop-up roastery site in the Dock Road, which we are developing, still.

“Both of those sites are intended to deliver more of an immersive coffee experience, while Guji, on the other hand, is our high-street retail brand. The link between the two is that I own both.”

A Guji coffee bar previously traded in Nenagh but subsequently closed due to Covid-19. All of the equipment from that store will now be repurposed for their new O’Connell Street location.

Alan explained that the new Limerick shop will source the coffee it sells from either of the Old Barracks sites, while another Guji already exists in Cork, meaning this will be their second Mid-West location.

“Great coffee is expected and is our minimal level of service - after that, the focus is on the brand and the lifestyle, which Guji represents.”

The new premises will open over the June bank holiday weekend.
