PERMISSION has been sought to turn a former pub in Limerick city into a bookmakers.

BoyleSports have applied to Limerick City and County Council for planning permission to change the former Dan Reddan's public house on Wolfe Tone Street into a bookmakers.

The pub, formerly known as Dan Reddan's then as O'Dwyers, announced in May 2021 that they would not be reopening following the Covid-19 pandemic.

At the time, owner Anthony O'Dwyer said that he was closing the premises due to “tough trading conditions”.

Plans have now been submitted by the bookmakers which include internal demolitions, alterations, new signage and all associated site works.

The proposed development consists of works within the South City Centre and Newtown Perry Architectural Conservation Area.

Brendan Moore Architects in Kilkenny have made the planning submission to the local authority which may grant permission subject to or without conditions or may refuse to grant permission.

O’Dwyer’s pub belonged to the broader family of former Irish international rugby player Eoin Reddan.

Established in 1912, it had enjoyed a major refurbishment before the pandemic forced them to close their doors.

Those who wish to make a submission or observation in relation to the application may do so in writing to the Planning Authority on payment of the prescribed fee of €20 within the period of five weeks, beginning on the date of receipt by the authority of the application and such submissions or observations will be considered by the Planning Authority in making a decision on the application.
