A SENIOR Limerick garda has helped to raise €20,000 for an air ambulance service that helped to save his life.
Inspector Niall Flood, of Newcastle West garda station, was taken to Cork University hospital by air ambulance after he was involved in a road traffic collision while cycling in Dromcollogher in June of last year.
The speed with which Insp Flood, based in Newcastle West, was flown to Cork University Hospital was crucial in saving his life.
Mícheál Sheridan, CEO of Ireland’s biggest critical and advanced volunteer doctor and emergency medical responder charity, shared a photo of himself, colleague Edward Walsh, operations and standards manager, with Insp Flood on Twitter.
Mr Sheridan tweeted: "It was a pleasure to meet with Garda Inspector Niall Flood today. Niall was involved in an RTC last year whilst out cycling and at that time our helicopter responded to him. Today we received over €20,000 raised in gratitude to our charity."
Insp Flood raised the €20,000 through a golf classic in Newcastle West Golf Club and other fundraisers that were generously supported by colleagues and friends.
