Members of the Adare-Rathkeale district approved the community funding
COUNCILLORS in a West Limerick area have approved the granting of €14,000 funding to local community groups.
Members of the Adare-Rathkeale municipal district approved four lots of funding for different projects across their communities.
It came as part of the General Municipal Allocation fund, which is a dedicated pot of money the area’s six councillors can access for projects of their choice.
At the monthly district meeting, which took place above the library in Rathkeale, Pallaskenry Tidy Towns was given a grant of €2,000.
Elsewhere, in Pallaskenry, Scoil Mhuire National School staff were given €3,000 for projects related to the educational institution.
And €1,000 is going to the village’s senior citizens club.
The Ferrybridge Watersports Pontoon Club near Clarina is being given funding of €8,000 as it continues its bid to promote the River Maigue as a safe place to swim.
A pontoon is planned to be built on the opening to the waterway, with members of the metropolitan district which borders the area also granting money.
The move for the funding near Clarina was presented by district leader Cllr Stephen Keary, Fine Gael, plus Fianna Fail’s Kevin Sheahan and Independent Emmett O’Brien.
