LIMERICK City and County Council is weighing up the possibility of introducing a tourism pass providing access to several local attractions.
Cities across the world have cards which give entrance to several of their prime sites in exchange for an upfront fee. A sightseeing pass in Dublin, for example, costs from €69, and then provides free access to around 35 attractions.
Now, the tourism department of Limerick’s local authority is considering bringing the concept to the local area.
It is seeking quotes from companies interested in delivering an official sightseeing card, and provide marketing around a product, which has a working title of the Discover Limerick pass.
Any contract would run between April and September 2023, council added.
“The overall objective for Discover Limerick pass marketing and promotion 2023 [...] is to leverage this official sightseeing pass to grow local, domestic and international visitor numbers to Limerick,” the council wrote in a public advertisement.
The deadline to respond to its bid for this contract fell on Friday last at 5pm.
Depending on the company bids coming forward, the council will then make a decision as to whether such a project is feasible.
The local authority declined to comment further when contacted by the Leader in regard to this story.
