A new draft transport plan will see a 24-hour bus service proposed
PLANS are being put in place for an around-the-clock bus service in the city, the Limerick Leader can reveal.
This morning, the National Transport Authority (NTA) will unveil details of its proposed new bus network for Limerick.
The authority says the strategy, put together by metropolitan transport design experts Jarrett Walker and Associates will "transform" the city's bus system and make "public transport more useful to more people."
One of the measures being proposed as part of this will be the introduction of a 24-hour bus service on the route connecting University of Limerick, Castletroy, Raheen and University Hospital Limerick in Dooradoyle with the city centre.
The service would reflect the route of the 304 which will continue to operate at a high frequency during the daytime hours.
It's anticipated the night service will travel once every hour.
Dublin and Cork already have a number of night bus services, but it will be a first for Limerick, if the strategy is ultimately approved.
The move will no doubt be popular with late night revellers in the city centre, many of whom often will struggle to source a taxi at closing time.
