Tributes paid to Limerick 'gentleman' and soccer stalwart after untimely passing

TRIBUTES have been pouring in from the sporting community following the untimely death of James Flanagan. 

Formerly of Lynwood Park and TUS, James passed away unexpectedly at home on Wednesday, February 15. 

Sporting clubs across the county have posted tributes to the Fairview Rangers clubman. 

His club announced that all training and matches were cancelled this weekend in respect. 

"All at Fairview Rangers are saddened to learn of the passing of our friend James Flanagan.

"All at the club know of his huge contribution to the club in different roles throughout the years and are massively grateful for his efforts.

"Our condolences to James' family, his partner Fiona, son Jack and friends at this very hard time. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam".

Meanwhile Claughann GAA passed on their condolences to James' family and his club. 

"He was a gentleman to deal with over the years and a great Clubman of Fairview Rangers and a great supporter of all sports in Limerick.

"James had an exquisite personality that brought smiles to many faces. James was always willing to give a helping hand in any fundraising that went on for the club. A great loss to the community of Limerick. May he rest in peace."

Beloved partner of Fiona Geraghty, proud dad of Jack, dearest son of Irene and the late John and loving brother of Jean-Claire.

He is sadly missed by his family, Fiona’s parents David & Aine and her brothers Dave & Ian, James’ uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, relatives & his many many friends.

James will be reposing at Griffin’s Funeral Home, John’s Gate on Monday, February 20, from 4:30pm to 6:30pm.

Funeral will arrive to St. John’s Cathedral on Tuesday, February 21 for Requiem Mass at 11am. Burial afterwards in Mount St. Lawrence Ext. Cemetery.
