Information is being sought after a number of signs were removed in Mountcollins | FILE PHOTO
AN act of vandalism which took place in the small Limerick village of Mountcollins in broad daylight, has been condemned.
Information is being sought after two signs were removed and discarded by the perpetrators.
The sign for the Children’s Graveyard which was removed from the entrance of Cragg has not yet been recovered while the second sign - for Romi’s Bee Sanctuary - has since been located.
Chairman of the Community Development Board of Mountcollins Kevin Flannery said: “Both signs were up at the road front, at a laneway entrance to private property - somebody decided to remove both signs, which would have taken a lot of effort to do as they were solidly stuck on.”
“We would greatly appreciate it if someone came forward and returned the Children’s Graveyard one, which was only put up around six to eight months ago, but I don’t think that is going to happen now. We have a new one ordered to go up,” he added.
Mr Flannery told Limerick Live it's likely the incident was a “once off” act of vandalism because he doesn’t think an act of malicious intent of this nature would have been a regularoccurrence in the area.
There was no graffiti found on the Bee Sanctuary sign which was recovered.
It is a criminal offence to remove and unlawfully damage public property and a person found guilty of this offence could be issued a fine, or to a maximum term of imprisonment of one year, or both.
Any person with any information on this act of vandalism is asked to report to the Tidy Towns organisation in the locality.
