A MAN has been charged by gardai in connection with a house fire in Limerick city on Tuesday night.

Firefighters from Mulgrave Street, Shannnon and Cappamore attended the scene of the blaze at a property on the Ennis Road shortly after 9.30pm. They spent hours battling the fire to bring it under control.

Gardai also commenced an investigation with a spokesperson saying, "The fire had spread to an adjoining property and significant damage was caused to both properties".

A man, aged in his 40s, was arrested in the early hours of Wednesday morning and was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at a Limerick garda station.

A garda spokesperson confirmed to Limerick Live on Wednesday evening that the man was charged in connection with the fire.
