TWELVE years after captaining Kilmallock to Limerick Senior Hurling Championship glory, five-time All-Ireland winner Graeme Mulcahy once again lifted the Daly Cup as he skippered the Balbec to glory against Na Piarsaigh on Sunday.

Amidst all the celebrations in the south Limerick town, a unique photo has emerged.

The Kilmallock GAA Facebook page shared a snap of captain Mulcahy and corner back Jackie Dwane - back in 2014.

The now teenage Dwane has been one of the brightest emerging talents in the county championship. The tough corner back was also invited in to train with the Limerick senior panel earlier this year before making his Kilmallock debut.

Little did either know 12 years ago when Balbec players were showing the Daly Cup to local youngsters that they would soldier on the field together in future years.

Since the picture was taken at Fitzgerald Park a dozen years ago, Mulcahy went on to win five All-Ireland titles with Limerick, while Dwane - a Leaving Cert student - started every game for the county’s U20 side this season and is expected to make the step up to John Kiely’s panel in the coming years.

Dwane, along with the likes of Shane O’Brien, Pierce Connery and Gearoid Enright won their first SHC title on Sunday while the experienced Mulcahy picked up a fifth winners’ medal at the weekend.
