CONFIDENCE is high in the Limerick senior football squad following their impressive victory over Westmeath in their previous Tailteann Cup outing, according to manager Jimmy. Lee.

Lee's charges face Wexford in the quarter-final of the Tailteann Cup on Sunday at 3.45pm in the TUS Gaelic Grounds.
Limerick booked a direct route to the quarter-finals by topping their group in the round robin phase of the competition, winning all three of their fixtures.

“Confidence is high, they're working hard and they are not taking anything for granted either which is testament to themselves. Lads are constantly trying to improve themselves.

“You win a game, you take confidence out of it. They're showing a lot a character take the Westmeath game alone, Wicklow in the league and Wexford in Croke Park. There's a resilience there that's developing in tight games, we are learning how to win tight games,” added Jimmy Lee.

Monaleen's Tadgh Ó Siochru has made his return from injury after missing the Westmeath game, while Barry Coleman will be up against it to play against Wexford said Lee.

“Tadgh Ó Siochru obviously will be back, he'll be back in contention. Barry is up against it, we'll know more this week. You'll never be playing anyone at 90 per cent or even consider it. It's unfair to ask a lad to play at 90 per cent.”
Lee expects a huge challenge from Wexford this weekend.

“Wexford are a fair challenge, we'll need to be coming into it in top form in terms of our abilities. Our mind would want to be focussed on it, we wouldn't want to be getting it into our heads that Wexford are the easier side of the draw.

“It's another learning for us to see have we moved on from the league final, have we stepped up? Now you're in knockout territory, it's another step on the journey in terms of where we are at.”

The aim for Limerick is to get back to Croke Park said the Newcastle West native. Limerick have been defeated by Laois and Sligo in the Tailteann Cup quarter-final in 2023 and 2024.

“It's important for us in terms of achieving our targets that we would have set. I wouldn't be looking back saying it's important because we have stuttered at the quarter-finals in the past.

“It's all about this year, last year was last year, year before was year before. It's actually about the group and seeing how far we can go.”
